The John Cummins Memorial Fund for Cancer Patients

The John Cummins Memorial Fund has been established by the by the Construction and General Division Victorian Branch with Melbourne Community Foundation (MCF) to honour the memory and legacy of John Cummins. John was 58 when he died on 29 August, 2006 of a brain tumour. John dedicated his life to working people, in particular construction workers. The purpose of the Fund is to honour and continue in some small way John’s lifetime work.
The memorial fund is the initiative of John's family, friends, colleagues and comrades, Cummo's committee.

Funds are being raised to:

-support patients with a brain tumour attending the Austin Hospital
and

-establish a scholarship fund to support young students or trade union members from disadvantaged backgrounds to complete their tertiary education or to access higher education.

To raise money for the fund an annual dinner has been held in 2007, 2008 and 2009

Money distributed by the memorial fund in 2009 includes:

  • $55,000 for Austin Health to support people with brain tumours and their families
  • $20,000 in scholarships for working class high school students
  • $6,000 for North Heidelberg Football Club, where John was a president.
