The schools are based in communities where child labour is rampant and where the communities themselves made the decision to pursue education as a solution to what they know is an unsustainable situation.
The schools are so successful that more than 2,000 illiterate children, including bonded child labourers, have been removed from work and enrolled in the schools. More than 500 children have successfully transferred to the government school system and more are tranferring each year, enabling new enrolments in the Child Labour Schools.
