POLL: Coalition would lose key marginal seats as voters abandon Government over harsh Budget.

The Abbott Government’s $7 doctor fee, petrol excise and cuts to health and education are causing voters in the outer metropolitan marginal seats of Latrobe in Victoria, Forde in Queensland, and Lindsay in NSW to turn away from the Coalition, according to a new poll.

The result would see the Coalition lose Latrobe and Forde convincingly, while Lindsay in Western Sydney would become line-ball.

The poll, commissioned by the CFMEU, was conducted late last week by UMR Research. It asked over 1000 voters in each of the three electorates their reactions to the Federal Budget, and voting intentions.

Sixty six per cent of voters in Latrobe, 61 per cent in Forde and 56 per cent in Lindsay said the Budget was bad for them and their family.

The CFMEU National Secretary Michael O’Connor said the results showed the Budget was hurting working families doing it tough, and the Government would pay at the polls.

“Working families who are already struggling with unemployment and rising costs of living are the ones who bear the brunt of this cruel Budget, while big business and the wealthiest Australians are protected,” Mr O’Connor said.

“Tony Abbott had no mandate to dismantle Medicare, introduce a new fuel tax and force Australians to work longer – and the voters hit hardest know it.”

The following results have been extracted from a UMS Research poll of voters in Latrobe, Forde and Lindsay electorates on Wednesday and Thursday, 21 and 22 May 2014.
