Women in male-dominated industries: A toolkit of strategies

Today the Australian Human Rights Commission has released Women in male-dominated industries: A toolkit of strategies.

The Commission’s Toolkit was been developed to help address this problem.

CFMEU and AWU join forces in the Pilbara

The CFMEU will join forces with the Australian Workers Union to organise Rio Tinto iron ore miners in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The Pilbara Iron Ore Alliance joint venture has been formed to reach out to Rio’s 15,000-plus ununionised workers in the region, said CFMEU National President Tony Maher.

“Our first job will be to simply listen to mineworkers’ concerns,” said Mr Maher.

Victorian state construction code shattered by court decision

Judge upholds CFMEU claims
State Government guilty of coercion

The Federal Court has found the Victorian State Government acted unlawfully when it attempted to use its building code to exclude two construction companies from government work because their workers had enterprise agreements in breach of the code.

The judgement stems from a four day trial in March at which the CFMEU argued the government acted unlawfully in attempting to exclude companies from government tenders, including the construction of Bendigo Hospital and the Circus Oz Project in Collingwood.
