
Make the 457 visa system fair for all workers: CFMEU
The CFMEU’s submission to the Senate inquiry into 457 visas and enterprise migration agreements aims to make the system fairer for all workers – both Australian and overseas workers.
National CFMEU Construction Secretary Dave Noonan said that labour market testing was a necessary step to stop the undercutting of wages and conditions.

Women in male-dominated industries: A toolkit of strategies
Today the Australian Human Rights Commission has released Women in male-dominated industries: A toolkit of strategies.
The underrepresentation of women in industries considered to be male-dominated – mining, utilities and construction – is an issue that is not only undermining gender equality in Australia, but is having negative effects on industry performance and our economy. The Commission’s Toolkit was been developed to help address this problem.

CFMEU and AWU join forces in the Pilbara
The CFMEU will join forces with the Australian Workers Union to organise Rio Tinto iron ore miners in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The Pilbara Iron Ore Alliance joint venture has been formed to reach out to Rio’s 15,000-plus ununionised workers in the region, said CFMEU National President Tony Maher.
“Our first job will be to simply listen to mineworkers’ concerns,” said Mr Maher.
