CFMEU SCRUTINY OF QANTAS

21 November 2011, 12:18pm

CFMEU writes to QANTAS requesting a copy of their share register

The Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) has this week written to the Company Secretary of Qantas, requesting a copy of the airlines share register.

The Union will consider exercising options under the Corporations Act to call a general meeting of the company. “The Corporations Act enables 100 shareholders to call on the directors to hold a general meeting,” said Michael O’Connor, CFMEU National Secretary.

As a QANTAS shareholder, and, I might add, as a regular QANTAS customer, the CFMEU is not satisfied with some of the recent actions and comments of QANTAS management.

“We will be consulting with other shareholders as to the merits of calling for a general meeting to ask the company to give shareholders the benefit of an explanation of their recent activities, and why no mention of their intention to ground the airline was made to the Annual General Meeting held only a day before they acted.”
