The CFMEU sees the struggle of Australian workers for rights and justice is the same as, and is indeed linked to, the struggle of working people around the world. In this age of globalisation where capital, goods, ideas and labour flow rapidly from country to country, it behoves trade unions of all nations to strengthen ties and work co-operatively in the interests of the working class.
Historically, building and construction industry workers, forestry workers, miners and workers in related industries who make up our union, have adopted an 'internationalist' outlook. As a union we have been part of historic struggles for freedom and against injustice and exploitation such as that against the Aparthied system in South Africa, the East Timorese liberation struggles and countless other important campaigns to increase human freedom.
Today the CFMEU is receiving important international solidarity as we face the Howard Government's profoundly undemocratic Building Industry Improvement legislation and the WorkChoices assault.
