These benefits go well beyond industrial representation at work and include (depending on which state you live in) things like access to subsidised holiday accommodation, 24 hour accident insurance, free legal advice etc.
Talk to "old timers" in your industry about what pay and conditions were like back in times when union organisation was weak. The CFMEU has gone a long way toward civilising the dangerous and dirty industries where we operate. Experieced workers have a historical perspective on this that is worth hearing first hand and will inform your decision.
To join the CFMEU simply contact your state branch office or local lodge and ask for membership application forms and whatever background information they have available to be mailed to you. Be sure you are talking to the right Divison of the union (ie Construction, Forestry, Mining). And don't forget trade union membership is a tax deduction.
